SPEED MODE Padova
Vi dice niente questa colorazione?
Vi voglio raccontare una storia...
Pochi giorni dopo essermi trasferito a Padova oramai 4 anni fa, facendo una passeggiata dietro casa, notai che nel parcheggio adiacente ad una villetta lungo il viale che porta al parco c'era un furgone Mercedes bianco e celeste con una grande scritta "Speed Mode Padova".
Pensai subito che si potesse trattare di un vecchio furgone di un team di motocross degli anni 70/80... proseguii.
Ho avuto modo nel tempo di notare altri dettagli "motoristici" nelle adiacenze di quella abitazione che mi fecero immaginare invece un negozio alla base di quei dettagli a me nuovi.
Circa un anno fa in un mercatino dell'usato a Padova trovai una tuta da moto in pelle con una colorazione curiosa quanto evocativa che attrasse immediatamente la mia attenzione: il mio cervello produsse " tuta vintage in pelle colorazione Suzuki - la voglio".
Vista, avvicinato, toccata, aperta, sbirciato la taglia. Il pantalone 48 ... Cacchio non m'entra.
Bella. Fatta evidentemente a mano. Senza protezioni.
Senza difetti. Il taschino interno sembrava quello dei completi da uomo. Gessato. Vintage, sicuro! Che oggetto per la miseria!
Peccato.
Toh! Ancora la scritta Speed Mode Padova.
Ero curioso.
Peccato.
Passano i mesi e ricapito al negozio. La tuta ancora lì.
La riguardo. I segni di alcune scuciture dimostravano la mancanza di un paio di toppe probabilmente della marca della moto o di altri sponsor probabilmente tolte perché...boh.
Vado dal tipo del mercatino e gli faccio un offerta. Chissenefregasenonmientraèbellissimalavoglio.
Il tipo controbatte l'offerta, ci accordiamo, la pago quanto voglio. ME LA PORTO A CASA.
La osservo in silenzio e con più attenzione. Trovo il punzone della lavassecco. E' immacolata.
Provo a metterla. Un guanto, sembra fatta per me.
48 i pantaloni, 50 (non l'avevo notato) la parte superiore. Tuta divisibile.
Mentre frugo nel taschino trovo la toppa della Suzuki. La forma coincide con le scuciture sul petto del giubbotto. WOOOOWW.
Quanto erano comode ed inutili le tute di quei tempi, non come l'armatura moderna che ho in garage...
io che so che significa "volare" in pista mi chiedo cosa sarebbe successo cadere indossando una cosa del genere...
E allora mi cerco informazioni più dettagliate della SPEED MODE di Padova.
Trovo un po' di articoli:
" Renzo Bettella, con la sua azienda di abbigliamento sportivo, la Speedmode, ha vestito cinque campioni del mondo di motocross. "
"La storia inizia nel 1964 quando Renzo, a 14 anni, si avvicina al motocross. Poi gli studi alberghieri, uno stage in Germania e, negli anni ’70, l’impegno lavorativo con la Personal di Varese. Ma senza mai abbandonare la passione del cross: nel 1968 Tabeon 78 (nome di Bettella da pilota) è campione provinciale nella categoria 175 cc; nel 1974 arriva terzo nei 250 cc passando agli Junior Nazionali. Poi la svolta. Nel 1975 nasce la Speedmode: le corse diventano un hobby e il gioco si fa duro nell’imprenditoria. Nell’abbigliamento per motociclisti è stato per cinque volte il numero uno. La prima volta proprio nel ’75 con Herry Evers (papà del più noto Stefan) in sella alla Puch. Seguono altri successi nel ’77, nel ’78 e nell’82. Il marchio vola a New York, San Francisco, Tokyo, Parigi, Londra.
Il mondo del cross si fida di Bettella: all’epoca i capi erano prodotti artigianalmente e le indicazioni dei clienti-piloti erano tanto preziose da segnare la storia del motociclismo. Perfino la nazionale di motocross dell’Urss si accorda con la ditta di Bettella per vestire i suoi piloti. L’abbigliamento diventa sempre più professionale, la Speedmode realizza le prime pettorine e il primo paraschiena. Di lui e dei suoi traguardi si parla ancora nei blog di enduro per appassionati."

Ne approfitto per ricordare Renzo Bettella (il pilota raffigurato nella immagine immediatamente sotto), ottimo pilota alla guida di Bultaco prima e di Ktm poi, ma ben più famoso per essere stato il titolare della "Speed Mode" di Padova, nota concessionaria ma, ancora di più, per la produzione di abbigliamento da fuoristrada, usato da molti piloti e più volte campione del Mondo!"

Sembra che la Speed Mode di Padova abbia addirittura inventato la prima protezione per la schiena ... anni prima della nascita della Dainese... il resto si perde nella memorie delle persone...

I want to tell you a story ...
A few days after I moved to Padua 4 years ago, taking a walk around my home, I saw that in the parking lot adjacent to a house along the road that leads to the park there was a blue and white Mercedes van with a big written "Speed Mode Padua".
I immediately thought that it could be an old van of a '70/'80 motocross team ... I went on.
I've got the time to notice other details close the house that made me imagine instead a store at the base of those new details.
About a year ago at a flea market in Padua found a leather motorcycle suit with a coloring as curious how evocative that immediately attracted my attention: my brain produced "vintage suit, leather, Suzuki colours - I want it."
Saw, approached, touched, opened, peeked size. The pants 48 ... Damn! not my size.
Bella. Evidently hand-made. Without protections.
Without flaws. The inside pocket seemed that of men's suits. Pinstripe. Vintage, sure! What a kind of beautiful object!
Too bad.
Toh! Even the word Speed Mode Padua.
I was curious.
Too bad.
Months later went again to the store, casually. The suit still there.
I took again a look. The signs of some seams showed the lack of a couple of patches probably the brand of the motorcycle or other sponsors probably removed because ... boh.
I went to the Dude of market and I did a deal. Idon'tcareafuckifit'snotmysizeIwantit!!!
The type counters the offer, we agree, I pay what I want. I BROUGHT IT AT HOME.
I watch the suit in silence and with more attention. I find the dry cleaning punch. It was immaculate.
I try to put it. A glove, seems made for me.
48 pants, 50 (I had not noticed) the top. Piece suit.
While I rummaged in the pocket of the patch Suzuki. The shape coincides with the seams on the chest of the jacket. WOOOOWW.
How were comfortable and unnecessary suits in those days, not like modern armor I have in the garage ...
I know that means "fly" on the track I wonder what would have happened to fall wearing such a thing ...
And then I try the more detailed SPEED MODE of Padua.

Luglio 2007 - capitolo 1 -
Nel 2007 mi trovavo a Salerno per lavoro, città che amo e mi manca infinitamente.
Era luglio e si stavano prospettando ben 15 giorni di ferie.
Personalmente non sono molto portato per prenotazioni e viaggi "standard" ed il primo giorno di libertà ho pensato che un tuffo nelle acque della Costiera Amalfitana potessero essere di buon auspicio: ed eccomi fra le curva di questa splendida costa a raccogliere un paio di idee sul da farsi e a godermi la moto, il sole, il mare.
La soluzione dell'enigma arrivò che ancora ero bagnato dal mare.
Si parte per .... Boh, direzione NORD.

In 2007 I was working for in Salerno, a city that I love and I miss so much.
It was July and were looked forward to as many as 15 vacation days.
